Brexit’s best-kept secret: UK is the world’s 8th largest manufacturer, and growing

The fact that the UK is one of the world’s top 10 manufacturers, rising from No 9 to No 8 in latest figures, is the best-kept secret of the Brexit debate, according to UKIP – and completely vindicates the British people’s refusal to be cowed by ‘Project Fear’.

“We have been saying for years that the UK was the world’s 5th largest economy, and everyone we met was surprised. But when we told them that the UK was one of the world’s ten largest manufacturers, they simply couldn’t believe what they were hearing – and typically asked why on earth anyone thought we could not survive as an independent nation, outside the EU”, said UKIP interim leader Steve Crowther.

“For decades, those wishing to talk down the UK have told us that we were a tin-pot country, too pathetic to exist without the help of Brussels. Disgracefully, our younger generation have been led to believe that we gave up manufacturing entirely under Margaret Thatcher’s government.

"Is it any wonder that so many of them fell for the disaster scenarios of Project Fear, threatening them with penury and telling them that Brexit had stolen their future?

“It’s time for this country to start realising that it is a powerful, stable, advanced and highly developed nation without the slightest need to ‘pool its sovereignty’. Our youngsters should take heart from the constant stream of economic news that shows that Brexit is an opportunity for them, not a threat.”
