Today Cllr Tim Aker MEP has launched 'The Aker Foundation' which will be used to assist the people of Thurrock. When elected as a Councillor in December 2014 he promised to use his Council allowances to set up a foundation designed to help local people.
He will be awarding a £500 bursary for a sixth form student in Aveley and £250 for a sixth form student in Thurrock. Cllr Aker is asking students to write 500 words on: "What I would do to improve Thurrock?". Submissions will need to be emailed with full address and contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org by midday on Friday 18th March, with results coming out a week later after the judging panel has met.
Cllr Tim Aker MEP said: "I am determined to make Thurrock a better place for everyone here and reinvesting my allowance into the community is the least I can do. I have several exciting announcements about the Foundation which will be coming out over the following weeks.
"The bursary will allow students who work to take a few weeks off for their exams and focus on getting the best results possible.
"I will be writing to all the sixth forms in Thurrock this week to let them know about the competition with information on how to apply."
