UKIP has welcome today's decision from the Court Martial Appeal Court to quash the murder conviction of Marine Alexander Blackman and replace it with manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The Party's Justice Spokesman, Peter Jewell, urged the court to now set Marine Blackman free when he appears for re-sentencing within the next couple of weeks.
"He has spent time both on remand and as part of his original sentence," Mr Jewell said.
"He should now be released forthwith with a sentence being the time already served.
"I'd like to reiterate our support for his wife, Claire Blackman, who has led the campaign to have her husband's conviction overturned and now deserves to be reunited with him as a free man."
