Parking charges hike blast from UKIP

Tuesday, 8th March 2011

Conservative-controlled Surrey County Council's plans to bring in more on-street charges for motorists to park their cars have been condemned by UKIP's Local Government Spokesman Cllr Peter Reeve.

"It is a disgrace that with the rising cost of essential journeys, Tory Councillors continue to hit ordinary people in the pocket just to park their cars," said Cllr Reeve.

"With fuel prices out of control, motorists continue to get squeezed for cash by local Tory Councils as in Surrey. Small businesses in the area are going to once again feel the effects of rising costs to operate,"

Cllr Reeve urged voters in the area and around the country to vote for UKIP Councillors to keep the costs of living and working down, branding Tory Councillors in Surrey as "massively out of touch".

"Instead of sweeping internal wage cuts, Councils remain obsessed with taxing and charging citizens in every way they can. UKIP believes that Council cuts should start at the top. The burden should not fall on local people and local businesses."
