Taxpayer hit by public sector spree
Wednesday, 1st June 2011
UKIP Local Government spokesman, Cllr Pete Reeve yesterday condemned the public sector as being "out of control", after figures were released by the Department for Communities and Local Government showing councils using taxpayers' money to prop up over-generous state pensions.
Over a quarter of all council tax payments are now being handed over not for services but to pay for public sector pensions in the town hall, which now come to a staggering £11.62 Billion.
Cllr Reeve said: "It is a clear symptom of a state that has been allowed to run out of control.
"Town Hall bosses have been making commitments with taxpayers money that are almost impossible to meet.
"Now we find vital services are being axed and tax payers burdens are going up, it is a crazy situation to have allowed local government to get into.
"Add to that mix bailouts for other nations and the £48 million that the UK gives away as a daily membership fee to the European Union which David Cameron is obsessed with staying in and it becomes easy to see why the hard working British taxpayer is now on his knees."
