UKIP Leader Nigel Farage has issued a battle cry to rally UKIP troops for the Norwich North by-election on July 23 to be contested for the party by local man Glenn Tingle. He said: "Following our taking second place in the EU-elections, we are engaged, without a break, in another important battle.
"But we must mobilise very quickly if we are to realise UKIP's potential in this poll. Around 14,000 postal ballots will already have been distributed by July 10.
"UKIP's performance here, good or bad, will set the tone for the media's perception of our chances in a General Election, because this is likely to be the last test of our eligibility before then. A really good performance is vital." UKIP's by-election organisers have issued an urgent appeal for more canvassers and leafleters and FREE accommodation is even offered at a local country-club.
Mr Farage said: "UKIP's candidate, Glenn Tingle, is the only major contender, in this by-election, to have been born, and to have remained resident in the constituency. He is an ex-army man, now working as a construction-manager for a local company, and his commitment to the campaign is total; but he needs our help.
"Let us show that UKIP can do it, under first-past-the-post!"
The Norwich-North by-election will take place, three weeks on Thursday - on July 23 after it resulted from the resignation of the incumbent Labour-Member, Dr Ian Gibson who was sacked from the Labour Party after being caught in the MPs' expenses scandal. Gibson retained the seat in 2005, with a majority of 5,000.
