Conservative leader David Cameron has been branded "gutless and dishonest" for reneging on a promised referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. The Tory leader told the Royal College Pathologists the party would "do what we can to make good all our promises" but refused to set out what their response would be if the treaty is ratified by all 27 member states before a general election.
Cameron went on to say: "What I said is that we would hold that referendum on the Lisbon Treaty but it seems we are getting close to a point when it is part of European Law."
UKIP Leader Nigel Farage said it was finally clear that the Tories had no intention of putting a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty to the British people at all.
"This is no big surprise," he said.
"We can now see how gutless and dishonest the Conservative Party has been about their intentions on a referendum.
"First we had the Labour Party withdrawing their promise of a referendum, then the Lib Dems and now we have the Tories showing they are not to be trusted either.
"UKIP is the only party to be trusted on this issue and will continue to fight for this crucial referendum that all the other parties promised but will never deliver." Back to Latest News |
