Bank loans to wind farms 'wrong'
Tuesday, 10th November 2009
UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom has blasted plans for three UK-based banks to start offering new loans to onshore wind farms.
"This is an outrageous insult to the hard-pressed taxpayers who are shoring up the country's ailing banking industry," said the MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
"Small companies struggling to survive have their desperate requests for loans turned down and yet here is the government pushing for countless millions to be made available for wind farms.
"This is wrong on so many levels," said Mr Bloom.
"The banks - which we have shored up - should be offering loans to real companies in the real world not ploughing cash into this modern-day witchcraft.
"There is no way that wind energy will ever enable Britain to reach the artificial renewable targets imposed by the EU."
