UKIP hail judge on 'insult' trial
Wednesday, 9th December 2009
UKIP MEP Paul Nuttall welcomed today's news that Christian hoteliers Benjamin and Sharon Vogelenzang have been cleared of insulting a Muslim guest.
District Judge Richard Clancy dismissed the case at Liverpool Magistrates Court after a three-day hearing.
Mr Nuttall said: “I’d like to congratulate the judge on his commonsense. This case should never have got to court and would not have done so if it had been the other way round.”
“The Vogelenzangs are a hard-working Christian couple whose lives have been turned upside down by these proceedings. They risked a criminal conviction and lost a considerable amount ofbusiness because of this nonsense.
“UKIP has been totally behind the couple from the start and I hope that the NHS, which referred guests to them from the nearby hospital, will again now do so."
