Godfrey slams pub code cost blunder

Wednesday, 3rd February 2010

UKIP has blasted the Government after an admission that the cost to every pub of adhering to a mandatory alcohol code will be than TRIPLE the original £246 estimate.

"The Home Office has today admitted that they made a little error of calculation about the costs of their mandatory pub code", said Godfrey Bloom MEP today. "Nothing serious, just an underestimate of 3½ times!"

"They must have been down the boozer when they came up with their original figure, either that or it is just part of the serial incompetence and malice that this crowd of puritanical know nothings hold towards the pub trade."

"What have they got against pubs?" he demanded, "They are part of the solution to the drinking problem, not the cause".

"As we all now know the traditional pub is being driven to the wall be a combination of tax hikes, the smoking ban - and now they want to ban smoking in beer gardens for pities sake - Pubco greed and cheap supermarket beer. This added cost is another nail in their coffin.

We in UKIP support the pub in the best way I know, by going to them, but more than that we pledge to take the concerns of the trade seriously and will do all in our power to change this anti fun approach in government."
