Have EU sceptics been proven right?

Respected BBC Radio 4 Today show host John Humphrys has been on a European odyssey and arrived at some startling conclusions.
Writing in today's Daily Mail, he says: "Remember that the euro was never a purely economic construct: it was political. It was the inevitable next step for those who dreamed of a Europe so united in every meaningful sense that its nations would be inseparable.
The death of the euro would be the end of that dream.
