UKIP Leadership election timetable

Tuesday, 7th September 2010

UKIP General Secretary Jonathan Arnott has announced the timetable for the upcoming Party Leader elections.

With effect from 6th September, candidate nomination forms are available from Head Office. Completed forms must then be sent to UKIP Head Office, PO Box 408, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 9BG, to arrive no later than 5pm on Monday 27th September 2010, enclosing a £500 deposit cheque.

The deposit will be forfeited by any candidate who fails to receive 5% of the votes cast, unless they withdraw their nomination by 5pm on Friday 1st October 2010.

Any candidate wishing to stand for Party Leader must be a member of the Party, in good standing.

For candidates with valid nominations, their statement and photograph will be posted to all Party members with the ballot paper and return envelope, in the week-commencing Monday 11th October 2010.

The closing date for receipt of ballot papers shall be 5pm, Thursday 4th November 2010.

The count and declaration of the result will be held on Friday 5th November 2010

Hustings meetings will be held at locations, on dates and at times to be advised.

Nominations must be supported by a Proposer and 50 Assentors (together called “Supporters”) who must be drawn from at least ten branches, each of whom must be current members of the Party.

We intend that the mailing out of the ballot papers and the counting of votes will be dealt with by an independent third party.

Will you be setting up a webpage for leadership candidates - a bit like the webpage for PPCs during the last General Election. I would like to ask each of the candidates a question about gun control before I make my choice.

Yes, we have a few things planned for the nominees in the leadership race with a web presence for all featuring high on that list.
