Latest poll puts Government on the spot

Thursday, 28th October 2010

Paul Nuttall MEP, UKIP's Chairman has highlighted a poll released today that shows that 75% of the British Public want a Referendum on the EU.

"The poll also puts Cameron's failure to defend British interests over the EU into perspective," he said, "by showing us that when asked a further question, 73% of the public don't believe that Britain's contribution to the EU is good value for money."

"Of course it isn't," he said, "What is astonishing is that anybody outside Cameron's Cabinet might think so."

"In Brussels today we will see our Prime Minister going begging the Eurocrats not to raise the EU Budget to dizzying heights while he has to make such swingeing reductions on spending at home.

"He may well get his way, maybe the European Parliament's pie-in-the-sky demand for a 5.9% increase will be dropped, maybe we will get a still-ludicrous 2.9% as always demanded by the Council of Europe. He will claim this as a victory, but it is still an unacceptable increase.

"Not only that, what else will he have given away to secure this pyrrhic victory?"

The poll was conducted by Com Res on behalf of the EU Referendum Campaign of which Mr Nuttall is an Advisory Council member.
