Strong UKIP vote in Ramsey
Friday, 3rd April 2009
UKIP's Peter Reeve came a strong second with 31.6% of the vote in Cambridgeshire's Ramsey District Council by-election beating both the Lib-Dems and Labour candidates.
The result saw the Conservatives win by a slender 106 votes while UKIP polled more than Labour and the Lib Dems combined.
The chairman of the NW Cambs Branch of UKIP, Robert Brown, told Tory winner Andy Monk: "We made you look very nervous tonight and I think we surprised you and all the other political parties with our well-earned second place.
"A special thanks must be given to our membership who helped us deliver thousands of leaflets throughout this campaign."
Mr Brown said: "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who choose to vote UKIP and our man Peter Reeve. Also, thanks to those who had our Vote UKIP Corex Boards put up in their front gardens and for all those who lent their support by displaying the posters in their front windows.
"This has been a fantastic night for our Branch as we celebrate our third year of formation this month."
