Your 2010 predictions
Monday, 4th January 2010
We asked for your political predictions for 2010 and here are the best of the bunch submitted.
George Cozens predicts:
I think Hereford could be a possibility for a UKIP victory! It is currently held by the Lib Dems (the prospective candidate does not endear herself to Herefordians) but if the Tories had stuck to their manifesto pledge of a EU Referendum then it would be a signed and sealed victory for them.(From what I have seen the Tory candidate has been involved in local issues for a few years).
I would be a hard task to beat them but who knows!
Steve Grey (Walsall/Wolverhampton Branch) predicts:
1 Nigel Farage will defeat 'squeaker' John Bercow in Buckingham in Spring's General Election. Bercow will retire from politics and begin a new career as a bell tower salesman.
2 Gordon Brown will be 'stabbed in the back' early in the new year by Euro-Labour MP's concerned by the party continuing to flatline in both local and national opinion polls. A bloody fight for the leadership will then ensue, with surprise rank outsider Dennis Skinner becoming unelected Prime Minister and leading Euro-Labour to election defeat. Gordon Brown will be arrested together with Tony Blair and charged with war crimes and acts of treason against the British people.
3 David Cameron will be 'knifed in the back' early in the new year by Tory MP's concerned at the party continuing to flatline in both local and national opinion polls. In the leadership contest that follows, David Davis will be elected to head the Conservative Party, after easily winning a one-sided contest against Kenneth Clarke. David Cameron will retire from politics and start a moat cleaning business in partnership with former Euro-Labour Minister and ex-MP for Salford, Hazel Blears.
4 The General Election will result in a hung Parliament; and Prime Minister David Davis will have to approach UKIP's sizeable number of newly-elected MPs in the hope of forming a Conservative/UKIP coalition Government. After protracted negotiations lasting nine minutes and forty three seconds, David Davis will offer Nigel Farage the post of Foreign Secretary and an immediate referendum for the citizens of the United Kingdom on whether to leave or remain in the European Union.
5 In the Summer of 2010, 93% of electors will vote in favour of the UK's immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the EU. Peter Mandelson will leave politics and go into business as a 'porn baron' and a manufacturer of helicopter pads in partnership with former Euro-Labour Home Secretary and defeated Reddich MP, Jacqui Smith.
Greg Heathcliffe predicts:
1 UKIP wins the General Election by a landslide. (We would, if given an equal amount of coverage to the LibLabCon by the media).
2 All quisling MPs/MEPs/ media moguls/ business leaders etc will be imprisoned for the rest of their natural life in the Tower of London (with hard labour and a bread and water diet).
3 By the end of the year, deprived of British funding, the EU begins to collapse.
4 As UKIP policies begin to be felt a "feel good" factor sweeps the nation with lower crime, taxes, things beginning to work again.
5 As Big Ben chimes midnight on 31st Dec we will enter into 2011.
6 We wake up on 1.1.2011 and find the first four have been a dream because the media quislings would not allow equal access to their services.
Richard Shaw predicts:
1 UKIP will win five seats in a late Spring election. (Naturally, I hope it will be more.)
2 Of these, 3 will be won from Labour and one each from the Lib Dems and Conservatives.
3 All five UKIP MPs, led by Nigel Farage, will make rousing maiden speeches. These will emphasize the extreme gravity of our financial situation and the imperative need to insist on a massive reduction in our payments to the EU, failing which the House must give very serious consideration to complete withdrawal. Also the necessity for immediate cuts in the number of quangos, government advisers, spin doctors and every other unnecessary expenditure.
4 Two Independents will also win seats, one of which will be in Luton. UKIP MPs and constituency members will work on them at every opportunity.
5 UKIP will win another seat in a by-election later in the year.
The members of UKIP Kent predict:
1 I predict that the historic coastline covered by Folkestone & Hythe constituency will be taken by UKIP. This has also been predicted in two recent Daily Politics TV shows and other media.
Until now this was Michael Howard's constituency. The June 2009 Council Elections showed a massive swing to UKIP and two recent Daily Politics TV shows and other media also predict this result. Kent is immediately across the Channel from France and has always been Britain's first line of defence against occupied Europe. It took the brunt of coastal attack during the Second World War and Churchill constructed his War Rooms complex under nearby Dover Castle with its clear view of Channel operations from within the White Cliffs.
The people of Kent are stubborn and live with the immediate dangers of conflict more than most. From Roman times onwards, they have never been defeated by an invading army. It was the Romans who named the county "Invicta" (Invincible); following their own two failed attempts. When much of the rest of Britain was occupied and the Romans proving to be beneficial, Kent finally invited them in by peaceful Treaty.
2 My second prediction is that Dover constituency will also be taken by UKIP. Historic Dover has always been regarded as the political barometer of the UK. If Dover "turns purple" much of the rest of Britain will too.
3 My third prediction is that adjacent inland Ashford constituency will also be taken by UKIP. This is a huge constituency and fast becoming a suburb of London.

Andrew Smith predicts:
1 Samantha and Dave will make more than 1 trip to Cape Town in 2010 and each year thereafter
2 Trouble for Cameron over the EU will be fomented by Labour not by the Tory EU-sceptics, as Brown will se electoral advantage in exposing the Tory policy inconsistencies.
3 The world will continue to cool
Michael Watson (Kingston and Surey) predicts:
1 Pope Benedict vi will urge the British public to vote UKIP
2 Liam Halligan, financial guru of The Sunday Telegraph, will join UKIP
3 Daniel Hannan MEP Cons will join UKIP
4 Lord Pearson will announce that UKIP will be sponsoring a new horse race at the Cheltenham Festival The UKIP Cup
5 Lord Mandelson will announce his intention to take a sabbatical from politics in order to play The Master in a forthcoming series of Dr Who
John Davies predicts:
1 The Lib Dems make a last minute pledge to the nation that they will listen and act on behalf of the people.
2 Parliament is hung and the Tories have to make allegiance with the Lib Dems because there is no alternative.
3 UKIP captures many seats off Labour and the BNP and becomes the third major political party under the leadership of Lord Pearson, while Labour continues to evaporate.
4 Relations between China and the West deteriorate into trade wars - Russia takes advantage.
5 Iran turns in on its self and civil war erupts - The world keeps a watchful eye as the situation slowly gets dangerously out of control, and Israel gets nervous and rumours abound.
