Send in the clowns

Monday, 22nd September 2008

The busybodies and killjoys have been at it again. Birmingham council must be pleased with its success in ruining a circus by banning the clowns from playing saxophones and trumpets during their six-minute performance.

"The clowns are from Spain," said Martin Burton, owner of Zippo’s Circus. "I explained the situation to them and now they think the English are mad."

Well some of them seem to be not quite right in the head, apparently.

Birmingham officials cited the Licensing Act 2003 as their excuse for spoiling children’s fun. They said the clowns would  have to apply for a licence in order to play music. The Act is designed to prevent crime or disorder and public nuisance, to promote public safety and to protect children from harm.

Well no wonder these fascistic fools had to crack down on the clowns. Playing music while you make children laugh would obviously cause disorder, nuisance and crime, place the public at risk and do a great deal of harm to the audience – at least in the crazy world of the Birmingham bureaucrats.
