Forty-five-year-old Mark Hoath, who has lived in Sutton Coldfield for almost 30 years, joined the UK Independence Party (UKIP) this week.

Mark, who is married and has two children aged nine and 12, commented: “I have joined UKIP as it is the only party standing up for this country and its interests.

“The final straw really came after the General Election when David Cameron failed to give us a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. He gave a cast iron guarantee he would do so.”

“A lot of our laws are being made by Eurocrats in the EU who we don’t know and have not elected. EU legislation and unnecessary red tape is damaging our small businesses.”

“Locally, I think there needs to be a robust plan to improve areas such as Mere Green.”

“We need to attract more businesses to Sutton Coldfield and fill vacant units which are currently shuttered up.”

West Midlands UKIP MEP Mike Nattrass, who lives in Sutton Coldfield, said: “I am delighted Mark has joined UKIP and recognises that UKIP is the only party standing up for the interests of this country.”

“The Tories have con-ned the British people over Europe. We should make our own laws in Westminster and not be dictated to by bureaucrats in Brussels.”
