Environmental Question Time for MEP Candidates
Fanshaws Room, The Green, Brickendon, near Hertford, SG13 8PB
Main event (8:00pm-9:10pm)
All questions will relate in some way to environmental issues. There will be no pre-arranged questions; members of the public will forward slips with their names, affiliations and a question to the Chair, who will choose the questions.
Chairperson: Peter Hibbert (unbiased as an Australian)
Candidates:
Conservative Party: Robert Sturdy
Green Party: TBA
Labour Party: James Valentine
Liberal Democrats: Peter Welch
UKIP: David Campbell Bannerman
Candidates will be at the Farmers’ Boy pub both before and after the meeting, to meet local people informally.
Pre-event talk (7:40pm-7:50pm)
As many members of the public do not understand the institutions of the European Union, each party was asked if they had a young graduate or intern who would like to give a 10-minute factual and non-partisan talk explaining “What MEP’s do” before the main event. This will be given by Michael Heaver from the University of East Anglia, who last year won the BBC Schools Question Time competition and appeared on the panel of the TV show.
Parking spaces are plentiful. There is a small carpark on the Green immediately opposite the hall for the disabled, etc., and, just further north, the Farmer’s Boy car park, besides many other locations nearby.
The nearest train station is at Bayford, on the Hertford North Line, which runs from Finsbury Park, via Hertford North, to Stevenage; some trains go on to Letchworth. The train takes 30 minutes from Finsbury Park, with the stop at Bayford immediately after the tunnel. From the north, Bayford is the first station after Hertford North.
