UKIP Defence Spokesman, Mike Hookem MEP, has branded calls by German defence minister, Ursula von der Leyen, for the creation of a EU army, “a further attempt by the EU to once and for all destroy the UK’s national integrity and security”.
Mike, who recently criticised similar comments by Jean-Claude Juncker, said, “Miss von der Leyen’s remarks are further proof of a concerted effort towards the creation of a EU Army.”
“UKIP are the only political party truly opposed to any such move, as we believe it will degrade our national security, our ability to protect our islands and interests and further erode our political independence.”
“The EU has a long record of creating institutions through the ‘back door’ and the creation of a EU Army will be no different. All of a sudden, the British public will be presented with a ‘done deal’ and British troops will find themselves operating under the EU flag rather than the Union flag.”
