Armed Forces: Seriously Injured Personnel

Asked by Lord Pearson of Rannoch

To ask Her Majesty's Government what changes have been made in the past 12 months to the categorisation of injured soldiers; in particular, what are the new guidelines on whether a soldier is classed as "very seriously injured" or "seriously injured"; whether that will affect the reporting of casualty figures to Parliament and other public bodies; how those changes were made; and whether they will publish the minutes of the meeting where the decisions were made.[HL1529]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Lord Astor of Hever): No changes have been made in the past 12 months to the guidelines on whether a service member is classed as "very seriously injured" or "seriously injured".
