Sadiq’s London – Violent Crime Goes Through the Roof

Published Jan 03, 2018

Sadiq Khan’s record on crime in his first year of Mayor is appalling. The rise in violent crime from 2015/16 to 2016/17 is both staggering and frightening, with gun crime up 16%, rape up 18%, knife crime up 31%, murder up 27% and youth murder up by a horrific 70%.

David Kurten AM said, "After stating that ‘low level crimes’ such as car crime and burglary would not be priorities for the Metropolitan Police, theft is up 34% and burglary up 19%.

"These figures are now out of date as we have entered the recording year 2017/18 and early indications are that violent crime has increased even further.

"London now has the ignominious title of being the acid attack capital of the world, and is officially less safe than New York.

"The Conservative government cuts to police forces across the country are partly to blame, as they waste tens of billions of pounds on overseas aid and HS2 rather than essential services. He cannot continue to evade all the responsibility however, as he is willing to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on cycle superhighways which benefit relatively few people rather than investing in the police force in order to keep London safe."
