EURO ‘BIN POLICE’ FEAR FOR FAMILIES

CONTROL of Britain’s bin collections could be taken over by Brussels under controversial new moves to set up a European waste watchdog. A European Commission report recommends the creation of a Waste Implementation Agency to enforce EU laws on kerbside collections, illegal dumping, tips and landfill sites. EU chiefs are pressing ahead with a “cost-benefit analysis” of the proposal, which could see Brussels laying down the law for British home owners.
Brussels law already shapes waste collections in Britain. Councils which brought in fortnightly bin collections did so because of the EU Landfill Directive which fines councils for putting too much waste in landfill sites
