UKIP announces David Kurten AM as candidate in Lewisham East

David Kurten, one of UKIP’s members of the London Assembly has been selected by the party for the upcoming by-election in South East London.

Mr Kurten said,

"I am delighted that UKIP has selected me to be their candidate in the Lewisham East by-election.

“London is facing an unprecedented rise in violent crime and terrorism, but both the Labour Mayor and the Tory government have been weak on crime and weak on the causes of crime. Community policing has been all but destroyed and fatherlessness is epidemic but they dither over re-introducing ‘stop and search’ for fear of being politically incorrect.

“There are tens of thousands of people in Lewisham who voted for Brexit and many more who respect the result of the referendum but are fed up with Theresa May’s foot-dragging and just want to get on with it so the nation can enjoy the freedom and prosperity that Brexit will bring. Only UKIP will fight whole-heartedly for a full Brexit that the country voted for.

“A vote for UKIP will send a strong message that the people are fed up with virtue signalling and want policing and crime and support for families to be taken seriously.”

Gerard Batten, the UKIP leader said,

“I am delighted that David has put himself forward to stand in Lewisham. He is a seasoned campaigner, very popular with the membership who has the ability to reach out far beyond the traditional confines of a purely Eurosceptic electorate.”
