Darthmouth.jpgUKIP's Deputy Chairman William Dartmouth MEP has today called on Prime Minister David Cameron to be honest with the British people over Turkey potentially joining the European Union.

"Just a few weeks ago Mr Cameron re-affirmed to the House of Commons his commitment to Turkey joining the EU.

"But in the past few days  he has dismissed as scaremongering stories that Turkey with its population of 77 million people will be fast tracked into membership" said Mr Dartmouth.

"Mr Cameron says that people voting in the referendum should not take Turkey's joining into account. He says it will not happen until the year 3000 and not to worry because he has a veto.

"The Prime Minister cannot have it both ways", added Mr Dartmouth.

"Ever since 2010 he is on record saying he would do everything in has power to help Turkeys membership bill. Now he says it is a remote possibility and he has a veto.

"Surely Mr Cameron owes it to the British  people to  say whether a major government policy has  been changed."
