mcnarry-ukip1.jpgCommenting on the terrible news this afternoon that the prison officer who was the victim of a Republican terror attack in East Belfast has tragically died as a result of his injuries, UKIP Leader in NI, David McNarry MLA said:

"Firstly, we offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of the victim. We demand that assurances are given and measures are now taken on securing the safety of all workers involved in the prison service, PSNI and emergency services. I call for community outrage to be expressed in a united community condemnation of all forces of violence.

"Platitudes from the great and the good no longer represent the deep feeling and the hurt of public opinion. We need action now to round up for whatever reason all those people that the security forces believe would make us safer if they were no longer roaming and able to take innocent lives."

UKIP Assembly Candidate for East Belfast, Jonny Lavery added: "This is truly devastating news regarding the death of the prison officer who was the victim here of a disgusting Republican attack. This was a man murdered by terrorists whilst serving his community.

"All of our thoughts and our prayers must now be with his family and friends at this incredibly tough time."
