In a major coup for UKIP long time Chairman of Waveney District Council, Cllr Peter Collecott has announced that he is joining the party and standing for it in May.
Speaking this morning Nigel Farage said, "I was delighted to meet Peter last night and to welcome him to our ever growing team in Suffolk.
To have somebody as respected and well thought of in Waveney join us is a huge boost. He understands as we do that the purpose of a local Councillor is to represent their ward, and their constituents, rather than be driven by the ideological requirements of a party. Yes of course we want to leave the EU and to cut down on uncontrolled mass immigration, but first we must serve the people that elect us. It is the simple bread and butter of local democracy and nobody knows this better than Peter".
Mr Collecott said, "I'm looking forward to getting stuck in with this campaign. I have served Oulton for years now to the best of my abilities and I remain as committed to it as I always have been. It is great to be part of a UKIP team that will deliver for the people of Waveney".
