UKIP were right in Romania and Bulgaria Migration Predictions

SteveWoolfe.jpgONS Figures today revealing that 178,000 people have arrived from Eastern Europe show Government promises to tackle migration are worthless.

Steven Woolfe MEP, the UKIP Migration spokesman said,

"Since the start of this year alone a migrant influx equivalent to the population of Peterborough has arrived in this country. This is simply unsustainable.

"The plain fact is while we remain members of the European Union there is absolutely nothing we can do to staunch the flow. Fiddling with unemployment benefits and taxation rates will make no noticeable difference.

"In particular these figures show that migrants from Bulgaria and Romania have totalled 13,000. At this rate it would mean 52,000 by the end of the year. At the start of the year UKIP was ridiculed for quoting predictions by Migrationwatch that 50,000 Romanians and Bulgarians would come to live and work in the UK in 2014. It just goes to show that UKIP were absolute right and the only party to talk honestly on the subject.

"What UKIP has always said is that we cannot have open door migration to countries with vastly different economies. This is borne out in the fact that 178,000 of the total 186,000 people to arrive here from Europe came from the poorer enlargement countries of the former Soviet bloc.

"The Government may be bragging today about reducing unemployment by 132,000 jobs. Given that in the same period 178,000 Eastern European migrants have UK unemployment rates significantly by managing inward migration of foreign workers. Of course, this cannot be done while a member of the EU."
