In the wake of the recent publication of comments by North West Brexit Party Candidate Claire Fox defending the actions of the IRA in Warrington, UKIP’s lead candidate in the North West Adam Richardson has called on her to "do the right thing" and step down.
Claire Fox was a prominent member of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) which defended, "the right of the Irish people to take whatever measures necessary in their struggle for freedom" after the IRA killed two young boys in Warrington. As a result of her comments and subsequent actions, another Brexit Party candidate for the North West resigned stating “I am unhappy with Claire's statement since she has not categorically condemned the violence inflicted by the IRA.”
The UKIP candidate for the North West has called for Claire Fox to stand down over the comments and to stop damaging the Brexit cause.
Adam Richardson said,
"It is not right that Claire Fox continues to stand in this election. Not only is it a huge insult to the people of Warrington, but it is also extremely damaging to the cause of Brexit in the North West. Condoning violence against children is completely unacceptable and has no place in the political discourse.
“UKIP is the only party in the North West offering a clear Brexit plan and I call on Claire Fox to stand down and stop further damage to the Leave cause. The people of the North West deserve much better.”
