DD: Social Media - Miscellaneous

Appendix DD / Social Media - Miscellaneous

Social Media is important. It can help us win elections, and garner supporters. And when we get it wrong, it can get us in the courts. For example, in April 2018, a former UKIP Bristol chairman has been sued for libel due to the content of the branch twitter account, although he wasn't the branch official responsible for tweeting.

Most social media advice can be applied across differing platforms and sites, for example, what you can screw-up in Twitter is not really any different from what you can screw-up on Facebook.

Who's REALLY in charge?

The video above is an extreme example - it's not often a whole country gets sued - but it illustrates that disputed can and do happen:

  • Who owns the account? Who will the admins side with in a dispute?
  • Who has access and can post or remove material?
  • Does your imprint refer visitors to the correct person for handling disputes?

Avatars

  • Please don't customise the party logo.
  • Remember that Twitter will forcibly crop your logo design to a circle.
  • This will have implications for Twibbon campaign users.
