E-Voting: How it works

Electronic voting was added to the rules (Appendix BB), following a pitch by Nigel Farage, and first implemented in the 2019 NEC elections.

The video above explains how our chosen voting supplier, Simply Voting's system works.

It has the following benefits:

  • Cheaper than a paper-based election.
  • Easier to audit.
  • No physical count required - results can be available immediately after the ballot closes.
  • Much more space available for candidate info - including web links and videos!
  • Optional Freephone voting available.

Election results are automatically produced in PDF format, and published on this site.

After each election, a detailed report is produced for the NEC including recommendations for improvements.

For demonstration purposes, we have a James Bond themed ballot, featuring different types of voting, and you can try it here.
